Figure & Plaster Painting in Astoria
Pick a blank figure, grab a brush, and give it a whole personality: hair color, outfit, rosy cheeks and a sprinkle of shimmer.
A wall of blank figures waiting for color
Along the back of our studio, shelves are stacked with white figures: fairies, angels, animals, cute characters and more. Kids choose the one that speaks to them and carry it to the table, where paints, brushes and palettes are already set out.
A guide shows how to start with big base colors, add details with a fine brush, and finish with glossy or sparkly touches. From there, every choice is theirs.

Painted figures at the studio
Bright, glossy figures line the display cases at Craft Pop. Use them for ideas, or invent a color scheme no one has tried.
More than just painting
Slows things down
Painting small details asks kids to breathe, focus and take their time, a nice change from screens.
Builds confidence
There's no wrong way to paint a fairy purple. Kids make real decisions and see them come to life.
Works for all ages
Preschoolers enjoy big bold colors; older kids go for shading, patterns and tiny faces.
Figure painting questions
What age can do figure painting?
About age 4 and up. Smaller figures with simple shapes suit younger kids; detailed characters are great for 8 and up.
Will the paint wash out of clothes?
We use kid-friendly craft paints and provide aprons. Most paint washes out of clothes if rinsed soon, but we still suggest play clothes.
Can we take the figure home right away?
Usually, yes. Paint dries quickly, and we'll help pack your figure for the trip home. If extra coats or a finish need more time, you can pick it up later.
