Perler Bead Pixel Art in Astoria
One tiny bead at a time, kids build hearts, animals and game characters, then watch them fuse into a sturdy keepsake.
Counting, color-matching and a little magic
Perler beads (also called fuse beads or Hama beads) are small plastic beads placed on a pegboard to form a picture. When the design is done, a studio guide covers it with ironing paper and melts the beads together, so the picture holds its shape.
Kids can follow one of our printed pixel patterns or sketch their own on grid paper. Our bead wall has a big range of colors, and we have handy tools that help small fingers pick up and place beads quickly.
- Large beads for younger kids, easy to grab and place
- Mini beads for older kids who want sharp, detailed designs
- Turn finished pieces into keychains, magnets, coasters or wall art
- Ironing is always done by our staff
Why kids (and teachers) love bead art
Fine motor skills
Picking up and placing small beads strengthens finger control and hand-eye coordination.
Math in disguise
Counting rows, finding symmetry and following a grid are early math skills, made fun.
Patience pays off
A design takes steady focus, and the "ta-da" moment after ironing is worth it.
Endless designs
Favorite animals, initials, emojis, video game heroes: if it fits on a grid, it can be made.
Perler bead questions
Are perler beads safe for little kids?
Beads are small, so they aren't suitable for children who still put things in their mouths. For kids about 4 and up we use large beads, and a grown-up should stay close for the youngest crafters.
How long does a design take?
A simple keychain can be done in 20–30 minutes; a big, detailed picture with mini beads can take an hour or more. We'll help your child pick a design that fits the time you have.
Can my child bring their own pattern?
Absolutely. Bring a printed pixel pattern or a picture on your phone and we'll help match the colors.
